Hard hats at the Hilton

Future Solents 4th Annual Conference:

Alongside the conference at the Hilton Ageas, there was an exhibition of smart green technologies under development in the Solent or already on the market. Among more than 30 exhibitors was MeasureMyEnergy. Launched three years ago and based in Chandler’s Ford, the company enables clients to monitor energy usage through a portal. Business Development Manager Mark Harvey said clients in 14 countries worldwide were typically saving between 20% and 37% on power bills having acted on data provided.

Portsmouth LED and solar lighting specialist Gemma Lighting were also exhibiting. Sales Director Mark Major said the company’s ‘highbay’ ceiling lights, used in distribution centres, warehouses, cold stores and other large commercial locations, could reduce energy consumption by up to 75%.

Further green innovation was under discussion by Southampton-based Bowman Power Group. The ten-year-old company designs and manufactures turbo generators that improve diesel engine efficiency. It currently has 600 systems operating worldwide.

Jason Bentley, founder of The Recycled Assets Company,  a social enterprise in Portsmouth, was on hand to explain to delegates how he takes confidential waste from large companies and returns it to them as an energy-efficient, burnable briquettes for use in their boilers.

The 2015 Future Solent conference was sponsored by Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution.
