Relocation…Clearance…Recycling

That isn’t far! Said Nigel when I told him our next relocation and clearance job was in Hastings…

Actually it is quite far from Portsmouth, 85 miles to be precise, but because the road network isn’t great for larger vehicles, i.e far too many roundabouts, it feels much longer. However, the extra driving time gave the team plenty to think and talk about, like how we are going to move 3 MASSIVE ’safes’. “Bring up the beast, shouted Jason” our trusted safe moving dolly when extra muscle and raw steel calls for it! Recycling at its best…

     Safe Moving Tips

  1. If you can avoid it, do so!
  2. Find a manufacturer mark and identify its gross weight.
  3. If over 350kg, follow tip number 1!
  4. Like most things, preparation and experience go a long way so make sure you have a strong enough dolly and the right moving equipment.
  5. Understand the basic laws of physics; it takes mass to move mass so ensure you have at least 2 strong crew members.
  6. Heavy objects like safes can seriously damage people as well as property so ensure you have a plan before attempting to move it.

One of the Safes at Hastings Borough council weighed in at over 450kgs (see picture below) and it took 4 men to move it up 2 flights of stairs. Safe moving isn’t easy but done right it can a satisfying and safe job if executed to a well prepared plan.
